Description

Being a member of a local Camp Fire Council Board of Trustee is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of youth in your community.  Camp Fire, a national youth development organization with over 100 years of experience serving youth and families, need quality board members to continue its Promise for the next 100 years.  Outlined below you will find the responsibilities of a Camp Fire board.

 

Planning

  • Set the strategic direction for the council that aligns with the Camp Fire Promise and the core program areas (out-of-school time, teen service and leadership and environment and camp)
  • Approve long range goals and annual objectives that align with the strategic plan
  • Monitor progress toward long range goals and annual objectives

     

    Financial Management

  • Evaluate, finalize and approve annual budget
  • Approved expenditure outside of budget
  • Insure the annual auditing of council accounts
  • Balance revenue streams – fundraising, fee-for service and contracts
  • Ensure adequate financial resources for the council

     

    Fundraising

  • Review and approve the council Case for Support
  • Cultivate and steward donors and potential donors
  • Solicit funds on behalf of the council
  • Make your own personal gift to the Council

     

    Board Development

    • Recruit new board members
    • Approve additions to the board
    • Insure continuous learning for the board around youth development, board best practices and other pertinent topics

       

      Governance

      • Create all necessary board committees
      • Appoint committee chairs and members
      • Conduct an annual board review of each board member and the board as a whole
      • Maintain communication with Camp Fire National Headquarters (through Board Chair)

         

        Program

  • Ensure programs align with the Camp Fire Promise and the core program areas (out-of-school time, teen service and leadership and environment and camp)
  • Ensure proper program evaluation is taking place for each Camp Fire program.

     

     

    Personnel

  • Select a new Camp Fire CEO when necessary
  • Provide the CEO with an annual evaluation based upon the progress toward achieving the strategic plan, long range goals and annual objectives
  • Approve the staffing structure for the council
